Sunday Morning

I bolted down the hallway—i knew the late bell was about to ring any second now, the lonely, secluded hall proved my suspicions. The emptiness rang in my ears. If I was late to first period, I would have to serve a detention on Saturday, thus ruining my weekend.
I was just two doors down from my class room when I heard a heavy door slam behind me, causing me me to spin around to spin around to see what happened. No one had been behind me, no one had even been around. I took another good look around , and there was no one around—what a shocker that is...
No late students, no janitors walking about, no hall-monitoring teachers.
No teachers?
There were always teacher in the hallways even during the classes. I was beginning to feel like I was in the middle of an episode of The Twilight Zone. Even more when the tardy bell didn't ring like it should have. By now, I would have been late. Ignoring my gut feeling to just leave, I tried the door. Locked. I checked my cell phone for the time but the screen was completely white and blank. I sighed in frustration and stormed down the hall, my footsteps echoing all around me like a creepy, cliche movie. As I walked, I searched for a wall clock, there had to be one somewhere, but I couldn't find one anywhere so far. I was just about to call it quits when I walked pass a window that showed the outside world, and noticed how wrong the picture was. I almost felt the blood drain from my face out of shock. I wasn't even morning anymore! It had clearly been 9:00 AM when I walked to school, bright and sunny! When I walked to school...? Did I walk to school today? But how could it be so dark outside? It was the middle of Spring, not even winter or Autumn, it should be light by this time! I shook the nervous confusion from myself and headed towards the front of the school to leave this mad house, keeping my eyes peeled and alert. Not one student nor teacher was anywhere to be found. I was starting to really freak out as I saw a quick flash of movement from my peripheral vision. I snapped my head to the right, just as one of the light colored, wood classroom doors were closing. Before it could close and lock shut, I grabbed the knob with a  pale hand. Without thinking about what I was doing, I slipped quietly and surreptitiously into the dark room. The low click of the knob sounded lightly behind me. I didn't move for a good 30 seconds, a combination of trying to let my eyes adjust to the lack of light, and listening to make sure nothing was creeping around in the room.
“Wait, what?” I snapped  at myself. First of all, the door couldn't have opened “for me” unless there was something creeping around; second of all, this was supposed to be a classroom, not a library,  which is exactly what I was seeing before me. I blinked in confusion, feeling the side of the wall next to me, looking for a light switch. Coming up with nothing, I gave up trying to look for one.
The room smelled faintly of old book and dust, as though it hadn't been inhabited in a long time. The fact that I couldn't remember anything about me getting ready for school or how I even got here (or how it could have been night), led me to believe that it could actually be possible that what I stood in front of  was the library. I took a slow observant look around the room, taking it all in from the decorative fake plants, to the reflections showing the room in the computer monitors that were in the far right corner. I paused my glance at one of the computer screens when I noticed something moving by one of the bookshelves across the room on the opposite sides. It was hard to even tell what it was through the limited light. (which was so very limited) I turned to look at the shelves, setting my bag down and started towards them, making as least noise as I possibly could on the dark, navy blue stubbly carped. I mentally kicked myself for even going towards the object, rather than away from it like any other normal person would.
I realized I was tip-toeing with my back hunched over like a spy. “I'm completely wigging out.” I shook my head at myself and stood up straighter but still keeping silent, walking slowly until I got the the wooden, aged shelves. From there I peered out to the back windows. It was, of course, still night; the sky was deep blue with smudges of pale light blue, it looked like a painting. There were no stars this night, and I didn't see any moon light either, which could be the reason it was so dark in the room.
I continued to walk and smashed my shin up against something hard and unseen in my path—sending a sharp sting right up through my leg and nearly up my spin, sending me doubling over, trying to nullify the pain by rubbing my leg. I stopped when I realized that I was bleeding, I could feel the warm, wet, stickiness between my fingers and then my palm, and running down my bare leg to my feet. I bit down on my tongue to keep from crying out in pain. Before I could do anything about the gash in my shin, something sounded wet from in front of me. All I could see was some kind of shape slithering out from behind the shelf that I was next to, I fell back on my backside from surprise. I gasped in pain when I stood up, ready to dart from the strangely placed library. I tripped and fell on my good leg, looking over to see if what I thought I saw was still there.
Of course it was, but this time there was more than just one, I guess it had friends. My brows furrowed in shock and yet again, confusion. In one quick motion they started towards me with the gross slimy sounds I had heard before. I couldn't make out what it was through the blackness, but I was almost sure it wasn't normal, no matter how bizarre my day had been so far.
With the help of my good leg, and my still sticky hands, I limped up and half ran, half limped towards the direction I thought I came from. I groped through the darkness for my bag, then started to feel for the wall. I threw the bag around my shoulder and started to slide my hands along the bumpy wall heading in left direction, hoping to find the door to get out before whatever that thing was in the shelves got to me. Curious and worried, I looked over my shoulder knowing it was a bad idea to begin with, and almost choked in fear. The snake-like tendrils, gross in all their slimy gooey-ness, were quickly inching their way at me, only a few feet away. I cursed under my breath and moved faster, limping and ignoring the heavy sting in in my leg and lump in my throat. I couldn't feel the smooth, wood of the door anywhere! It had been here just a few moments ago! Did I pass it? Did it just disappear!?  That's impossible! Door just didn't vanish from walls! Schools didn't have libraries where there were supposed to be classrooms! I shouldn't forget how or when I got to school! My head started to pound from the stress and horror. A squeal escaped from my lips when I felt a cool, smooth thing lash around my good leg's ankle. Before that thing could tighten or grip at me harder, I shook it off violently, and the pain in my other leg reminded me again why I wasn't using it to support my weight. My heart was racing in my chest, I could hear it pulsing in my ringing ears, cold sweat started to sheen over my face as I mad a break for the back windows. Fine. If the door didn't want to be there, I'd just have to find an exit through the back windows. I hit my leg against one of the tables that were in front of the big windows, glad for the fact that they weren't sharp or pointy to cut me open again. But I could feel the bones in my leg were going to bruise badly. I did my best to push the tables far, giving me room to squeeze through and push against the glass window. No go. I felt along the smooth glass, looking for a lock or latch of some sort to free myself from the dark abyss they call a library. I couldn't resist the urge to look back to see if I was still being pursued.
“They don't give up, do they...?” I glared at them for a brief second, noticing that the tentacles I saw a few minuted ago were actually attached to a mass of something the looked just as slimy and wet.  Disgusted, I  reverted my eyes to the window. It seemed like I was going to have to break one, but with what? There wasn't much of anything that I could break the glass with. Just a couple of old books that didn't have nearly enough weight to shatter it with, and I didn't have enough energy to use momentum to do any damage.
I turned around and leaned against the cold window, and fumbled around in my pocket until I found my cell phone again. Since I was this close to the outside, I had to at least get reception. I had to call home or something, I didn't know what was even happening besides something that didn't make any sense, and I think I should probably have my parents know what was going on. I found it and curled my fingers around the warm plastic, and fished it out, flipping it open instantly.
Blank white screen.
I cursed louder this time and chucked it off to the side in anger. I started to walk further, trying to buy a little more time before that thing caught up with me completely, using the window sill to help me walk. Tired, I leaned against the glass.
I'm never going to get out of here, am I...? I'm going to die like this, and I don't even know how I got in this mess...i bitterly thought to myself. I jumped when I saw it so close, moving from the corner of my eye, and the motion sent me sprawling backwards out the window. I landed on my back on the hard grass ground, looking up at the window I fell out of and realized that one must have somehow been unlatched because it swung open when my weight pressed against it with pressure. But I slammed my head, causing it to pound even more, tears bubbles over the side of my eyes from pain. I tried to sit up and get a move on before It started to climb over the window after me, but my world spun and my wrist hurt like  I had landed on it wrong, twisting it. I probably tried to catch myself with out realizing it. I rubbed at my starting-to-swell wrist and paused until the space around me stopped spinning.
“Ugh, you've got to be kidding me.” I used my right leg to try to push myself to my feet when It started to spill over the window, and onto the ground in front of me, twisting and gripping at anything it could. The sight made me sick to ever watch. How could I get away from this thing!? I quickly took a look around me, surveying the small courtyard, looking for something to help me fight It with. All there was around besides the bushes and small trees were the brightly colored food and candy wrappings left by litterers, and small, thin twigs that were guaranteed to break if I even attempted to stab or beat the Thing with. As I was backing away from the creature, (still on my butt, unable to even lift myself off the ground) my shorts got caught on something in the ground! I could hear the wore jeans tear through something, but I couldn't move. The blood rushed from my sweaty face, leaving me dizzy once more. I struggled with every thing I had to free my shorts from the root or what ever it was that had me pinned down to the earth, but it wouldn't release me. I looked up, scared to see how much closer It was to me, the tentacles inched forward every millisecond, moving faster now than it had previously.
Not soon after more struggles, I started to feel the coldness of the wet tentacles again, moving and tightening around my legs, holding me in place, using me to pull Itself closer, fear consumed me and I couldn't even scream.
This was it.
I was done.
I would never escape, would I?
My heart continued to race as I kicked and tried to shake off the evil, ignoring the returning pain of my wounded leg, only a few seconds later did I feel the heavy mass starting to swallow me up, wrapping around me, keeping me from struggling and fighting, as  if I had a chance. The world started spinning again and I couldn't see the difference between tree and bush, night sky and ground anymore, until everything went black...

“Is Carmen still asleep?” Her father asked his wife, sitting at the table, having breakfast. “I haven't seen her all day, it's not like her to sleep in this late.”
“Maybe she went to bed late last night, she mentioned something about an assignment she had.” She shrugged and smiled carelessly.
When Carmen didn't come down the next hour, her parents decided that they should probably check on her to make sure she was alright. When they took a look at her pale face, wide eyed horrified look, and felt she wasn't breathing, they were certain she wasn't well, and realized she was dead; her heart beat was nonexistence and  she was as cold as clay. Devastated, the girl's parents called the police and demanded an investigation and an autopsy. When nothing came up, when they couldn't find a single tiny reason for her to have died, there was nothing anyone could do but grieve, all the doctor could tell them over and over again until their denial seized, was how terrified and pain the girl looked when they brought her corps in...
